It has been a convention that the host gives a dinner party to the guests at all times and in all lands, and it is also considered as a matter of manners and protocol to show their respect and welcome to the guests in business intercourse. Food itself is one of the most visible manifestations of a culture and is something people are proud of and like to share with guests to their country. In some cultures the business dinner is a time for chit-chat and building relationships,in others simply a fuel stop at which people continue to talk about business, known as the“working lunch".
As many westerners are very health-conscious,a better way to order food is to ask your for-eign guests whether they do not eat anything in particular first, and ask them their own choices. If they do not know much of Chinese food,it is often safe and economic to order dishes made from beef, pork, lamb and chicken. The Beijing duck and some seafood dishes may be regarded as su-preme alternatives. It is also a good idea to let your clients try some hot and spicy Sichuan food fora change.
