　　The world is moving in a direction where people are prone to use products only for a short period of time before throwing them away. While various hypotheses have been put forward to explain the phenomenon, I tend to explore the reasons from the lifestyle of hectic people today and the extrinsic aspect from business.
　　From my perspective, such a wasteful way of life is a symptom to which I see our preference for convenience as an answer. Living in a fast paced society where the majority are inundated with their work or study, an increasing number of adults rely on fast food and prepared food for meals, both of which lead to enormous amount of disposable products; for example, the single-use food and drink containers, tableware or packaging of groceries. Another culprit we cannot afford to ignore is the business strategy that entices consumers to live an life of overconsumption: driven by profit, businesses spare no effort to persuade people to replace their old products by new models; sadly somewhat, lots of discarded goods have not been used for long. One compelling example is smart phones, which are listed as one of the most frequently updated products.
　　When it comes to the ramification of this throw-away lifestyle, it is hard for me to see the trend as anything other than a threat to the environment – by which I mean the exhaustion of nature resources in and the ensued pollution to the ecosystem. It is worthwhile to note that even the cheapest plastic bags cost energy and raw material to produce. If the relentless use of disposable goods continues, there will be one day that our resources are exhausted. Away from the apprehension about resources, the waste per se is a pollutant because many of the throwaways are made by materials that are non-biodegradable, meaning that they will stay in fill sites for hundreds of years.
　　In conclusion, I tend to attribute the ‘throwaway’ era to our own attitude of life and the consumer society triggered by profit seeking businesses, and I consider it a detriment to out ecosystem.
