在我教授托福口语的过程里，经常会感到同学们在表达英文时习惯直接进行“字对字”的翻译，造成不地道的表达，甚至引起歧义。下面我就简单给几个小例子，让各位尝尝中式口语与地道表达的区别：

　　1.表惋惜

　　-汤姆被他的家庭作业缠住了没法脱身，今晚不能来我们的鸡尾酒派对了。

　　- Tom’s stuck with his homework today and cannot make it to the cocktail party tonight.

　　- 那太可惜了

　　非地道：

　　- What a pity!

　　地道：

　　- What a shame!

　　- That’s too bad.

　　如果说话的对象是亲密的朋友的话，甚至可以用“That sucks.” 表示那太扫兴啦。

　　2.表尝试

　　-汤姆，那家新开的中国餐馆的木须肉真的好吃到爆，你去了绝对会大开眼界的。

　 　- Tom, Moo Shu Pork in that new-open Chinese restaurant is blow-your-head-off good! You’ll be pleasantly surprised if you go there!

　　- 好的，哪天我就去试试。

　　非地道：

　　- Okay. I’ll have a try someday.

　　地道：

　　- Okay, I’ll give it a shot/try someday.

　　3. 表高科技

　　高科技产品如智能手机等极大地方便了我们的生活。

　　非地道：

　　High technologies like smart phones greatly facilitate our lives.

　　地道：

　　High-tech products/Advanced technologies like smart phones greatly facilitate our lives.

　　其实除了high-tech和advanced technologies可以表示高科技外，在诸多欧美大片当中我们看到更多的是“cutting edge”和“state of the art”，两者都为形容词，用来表示生物军事等领域的尖端科技。
